HHS ‘60 Same Time Next
Year Reunion 2009 Report
July 4, 2009
There was a smaller group then usual attending the 2009 Same Time Next
Year function. It seems that new grandchildren, surgeries, and other
life events kept many of the usual attendees away. Everyone not attending
was missed but we managed to somehow have a good time.
The attendees were: Marty Aaron; John & Sandra Burkowski and DeeDee;
Larry Camp; Dick Corbett & Linda Clark; Terry Fernandez, Phil &
Jo-Dee Giberson; Nan, Ted, and Cindy Giorando; Butch & Carolyn Griffith;
Mike & Jeanie Lay Nicklos, John & Sandra Frye Patrick; and Jack
Whicker. Bob Shalley couldn’t make it but he sent flowers.
The photographers will be getting their pictures to John Burkowski and
he will do his magic on the HHS60 web site he created. As soon as he
has posted new information or pictures, you will hear about it.
As a recap, we gathered in Sarasota at the Hampton Inn conveniently
located just off I75. As luck would have it, there was The Sarasota
Ale House across the parking lot. That is where we had dinner Friday
night. Back at the hotel, we sat around talking and checking out Nan
Giordano’s album of her new home on a mountain in Clayton, GA.
Saturday morning after breakfast, we dispersed to play golf, visit the
Ringling Museum, go shopping at St. Armands Circle, walk the aisles
of the Dome Flea & Farmers Market, and drive around playing tourist
and taking pictures.
Saturday evening we dined at Jeff Giordano’s favorite restaurant,
Café Baci. I didn’t hear anything but praise for the food.
The service staff was very attentive and even gave us after dinner drinks.
After dinner we followed Nan down to the bay where Jeff’s ashes
had been placed and drank a toast to Dr. Jeff. We remember and miss
him.
After breakfast on Sunday morning we retired to the hospitality room
for our usual meeting to decide where we will be next year. Phil Giberson
asked for suggestions and then mentioned that he and Marty Aaron would
like to proposed Marco Island (for which they would take charge). Everyone
agreed that would be a great place for 2010. That will be our 50th Anniversary
and we would like to plan something special. Jeanie Lay Nicklos volunteered
to take care of the door prizes. I’m sure Phil, Marty, and Jeanie
would be open to suggestions and offers of assistance.
Phil brought us up-to-date on the students taking advantage of the Jeff
Giordano Scholarship Fund. The fund balance at this point is $3,200.
All contributions will be tax deductible and checks should be made out
to: "College Assistance Program, Inc." with a notation in
the memo portion of the check: "HHS '60 - Jeff Giordano Fund"
-- Donations should be sent to: Philip Giberson; 570 Glen Way; Miami
Springs, FL 33166. Checks received will be consolidated and deposited
with Robert Weintraub, Development Officer, Dade Community Foundation,
who administers the C.A.P., Inc fund. The donor will subsequently receive
from C.A.P., Inc. an acknowledgement of their tax-deductable scholarship
donation.
Hope you are marking your 2010 calendars now for the weekend after Father’s
Day. Also, please let us know if you have any changes to your contact
information.
To seek, to find, to share.
